How to Cook Denmark Foods Sausage

A great sausage doesn't need much—just the right cooking method. Whether you're firing up the grill, cooking indoors on the stovetop, or giving your sausages a quick simmer before grilling, these simple techniques will help you get juicy, flavorful results every time.

BEFORE YOU START

  • Cook pork sausage to an internal temperature of 160°F
  • Cook chicken sausage to an internal temperature of 165°F
  • Let sausages rest for 5–7 minutes before serving
  • Avoid poking holes in the casing, which can release flavorful juices
  • Microwave cooking is not recommended 

GRILL (Our Favorite)

  • Preheat your grill to medium heat.
  • Place sausages directly on the grill grates.
  • Close the lid and cook for 8–10 minutes, turning occasionally.
  • Continue cooking until the sausages are evenly browned and reach the recommended internal temperature.
  • Let rest before serving.

STOVETOP

  • Add a small amount of oil to a skillet.
  • Add the sausage links and brown on all sides.
  • Add 1–2 tablespoons of water or broth and cover the pan. Continue cooking until the sausages are cooked through and reach the recommended internal temperature. Rest before serving. 

BEER, CIDER, OR WATER SIMMER

  • Add sausages to a pot with enough beer, cider, or water to cover. Add sliced onions if desired. 
  • Bring to a gentle simmer and cook for 15–20 minutes.
  • Remove the sausages and drain. Finish on a medium-heat grill until browned and fully cooked.
